The Leñadores de Las Tunas, current champions of the main domestic tournament, have been selected to represent Cuba in the first edition of the Baseball Series of the Americas, which will take place from 23 to 31 January 2025 in Nicaragua.
According to JIT, the announcement came via Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation (FCBS), who underlined the importance of the event to evaluate the competitive level of tuners compared to teams from the entire region.
This tournament, organized by the Baseball Association of the Americas (ABAM), will include selections such as Panama, Colombia, Curaçao, Argentina and the host country.
The debut of the team led by Abeisys Pantoja will take place on January 24 against Nicaragua at the Roberto Clemente Stadium, located in Masaya. During the tournament, they will also play in the National Soberanía stadiums in Managua and Rigoberto López Pérez stadiums in León.
Under the format, the top four teams will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Jan. 29, with medal games the following day.
In addition to this commitment, the Leñadores will also participate in the second edition of the Liga de Campeones de las Américas, which will take place in Mexico in April 2025.
