When asked about the toughest match of the tournament, Treesa pointed to their semi-final encounter with the third-seeded Thai pair, Aimsaard. “The semi-finals were intense, and we had to fight hard. The match went to three games. We lost the first game, but after a tough second game, we gained the confidence to push through to the final.”

From Cherupuzha to the International Stage:

Treesa’s journey from a small village in Kasaragod to the international badminton courts is a story of determination and support from her family. “My father, Jolly Mathew, was a teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Cherupuzha. He built a small indoor court at home where I started practicing. As I progressed, my father left his job to support my badminton career,” Treesa shared.

She also acknowledged her early training under Dr. Anil Ramachandran at Mangattuparamba campus, Kannur University before joining P. Gopichand’s renowned academy in Hyderabad. “Joining the Gopichand Academy was a turning point. I had joined before the pandemic, but it was only after the lockdown that I could begin training seriously,” Treesa explained.

The Partnership with Gayatri Gopichand:

Treesa’s partnership with Gayatri Gopichand has been pivotal in her recent successes. “Initially, I played singles, and Gayatri also played singles. But we decided to team up in doubles, and it has worked out really well. There was no prior doubles training, but we knew that with hard work, we could make an impact. When I joined the Gopichand Academy, Gayatri was also transitioning to doubles, and we formed a natural chemistry on the court.”

“From the beginning, we found that our combination worked well. There was no awkwardness, and our understanding grew stronger with every match. This partnership has been a game-changer for me,” Treesa added.

Looking Ahead to Future Challenges:

Treesa is now preparing for the prestigious World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, scheduled for the second week of December. “This tournament features the best players in the world, and it’s a great opportunity to compete against top-ranked teams,” she said. Following the World Tour Finals, she will take a short break before starting the new season at the Malaysia Open Super Series in early 2024.

From a small indoor court in her village to competing at the highest levels of international badminton, Treesa Jolly’s rise is nothing short of inspirational. Her victory at the Syed Modi tournament and her ongoing success in the doubles arena with Gayatri Gopichand highlights her growing stature in the sport. With a bright future ahead, Treesa’s journey continues to inspire aspiring athletes.
