The Orange Army is celebrating. The Netherlands reached the Davis Cup final for the first time – the world team tennis for men.
Led by captain and doubles legend Paul Haarheis, the team ran out 2-0 winners against Germany in Malaga. In the first singles Botik van de Zandhulp needed 10 match points to overcome 6:4, 6:7 (12:14), 6:3 Daniel Altmaier. This same strange Dutchman sent Spanish legend Rafael Nadal into retirement in the quarterfinals.
The historic success of the Netherlands was ensured by Talon Griekspor, who survived the shootout with Jan-Lennard Struff and won 6:7 (4:7), 7:5, 6:3.
The Orange’s opponent on Sunday will be champions Italy with world No.1 Yannick Siner or Australia. This match is a repeat of last year’s final.
