The technical reshuffle at Sauber continues. After the choice to assign the role of Team Principal to Mattia Binotto, Audi continues to define the staff that will lay the foundations for the debut of the Ingolstadt group in Formula 1 starting from 2026. The path undertaken by the Germans is not simple, which involves the progressive inclusion of new figures to strengthen the key areas of the Swiss team. Up until now, in fact, Sauber has never been able to focus on high-level profiles due to significant budget constraints but the arrival of the four rings is changing the prospects.

the former Ferrari Rueda arrives

The first name on Binotto’s list was Ignacio “Iñaki” Rueda, chosen by the Swiss engineer for the role of Sports Director. The Spaniard – former head of strategies at Ferrari when Binotto was at Maranello – will thus be responsible for supervising sporting activities and relations with the Federation, assuming the same position already held at Ferrari from 2021 to 2023, always under the leadership of Mattia Binotto. “Rueda will replace Beat Zhender – we read in the press release released by Sauber – who will become director of programs and operations”. For Zhender, who has been with Sauber since the 1980s, a role of supervising the transition phase that will lead to the entry of Audi is looming.

Alongside the arrival of Rueda, Sauber has chosen Giampaolo Dall’Ara as head of Engineering. Dall’Ara, a graduate of the Polytechnic of Milan, has already held important positions in motorsport: member of Alfa Romeo in the DTM, the Italian was also part of Sauber Motorsport, where he worked as Head of Test Engineering and Head of Track Engineering . “His experience will allow the team to optimize performance in collaboration with the technical department”, reports the press release from the Swiss team.
