BCL returns to Carpena. Next Wednesday, October 9, Unicaja will play its first home game of the season in the competition where it is the current champion, and will do so against King Szczecin (8:30 pm, broadcast on 101 TV and ⇒Unicaja Basketball Radio). They are the runners-up from Poland, an unprecedented rival of the Malaga team.
Unicaja rested this Monday after beating Coviran Granada yesterday 68 to 84. King Szczecin will be the fifth Polish team that Unicaja will face in its entire history. The squad led by coach Arkadiusz Miloszewski is made up of point guards Andrzej Mazurczak and Antoni Majcherek; guards Teyvon Myers, James Woodard, Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz and Michal Kierlewicz; forwards Kassim Nicholson and Mateusz Kostrzewski; power forwards Szymon Wojcik, Aleksander Dziewa and Tony Meier; and center Chad Brown. In short, a combination of Polish and American talent that will try to surprise Martín Carpena. In fact, Dziewa, Mazurczak and Zolnierewicz were part of the last pre-Olympic with the Polish national team, a squad that also included Unicaja center Olek Balcerowski.
In their BCL debut last week, King Szczecin lost at home against Aliaga Petkimspor by 70 to 85, a duel in which Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz and Kassim Nicholson shone, with 19 and 15 points, respectively, in addition to Chad Brown, with 9 points and 6 rebounds. In their national league, which started this weekend, the Poles beat Górnik Zamek Ksiaz Walbrzych 72 to 82 with outstanding performances from James Woodard (17 points) and Andrzej Mazurczak (15).
