Saguenay Baseball hit a real home run by launching a fall baseball program last year. Faced with this success, a second season was launched in recent weeks, and demand is stronger than ever.
In fact, in its second edition, fall baseball practically doubled its number of players.
Last year, about 64 kids participated in fall baseball. This year, we are close to the 100 registration mark, with a total of 97.
“We were really happy last year with the formula we launched. The young people and their parents also appreciated it. So we offered a fall season again this year and the demand exceeded our expectations. We were able to form 10 teams, but unfortunately we even had to refuse a few registrations. In comparison, last year we had 6 teams,” mentions Jean-Marc Girard, of Saguenay Baseball.

According to the latter, the promotion of friendly play during the fall season greatly helps the popularity of the program.
“We really found a formula where young people play with pleasure and relaxation. It’s much less intense than during the summer season, even if it remains supervised, we have entertainment on the pitch, we name players of the match, etc. But the young people have less pressure, we just hope that they finish their baseball year in style. »
In this sense, in order to eliminate clashes and rivalries between territories, players from the different districts of Saguenay are mixed in the teams.
“Normally, Chicoutimi players will play for a team in their sector, the same for Jonquière or Laterrière. But in the fall, we do a draft and players from the three territories mix in the formations. »
Also, at the end of the games, both teams are invited to come together to take a photo.
“We don’t want war and parochialism, but above all, we want all young people to get to know each other and have fun together. »
The fall season continues until October 21.
