Dongfeng is wasting no time: the new B-segment sedan has arrived on the Swiss market with a competitive price, good design and a versatile interior. Will it also arrive in Italy?

In nearby Switzerland it is on sale for 21,990 francs, at the exchange rate of 23,415 euros: a competitive price that together with good ideas makes the Nammi Box a non-trivial model that could also have a market in our country, despite the problems with duties. It is built by Dongfeng, the Wuhan company that has announced its intention to open a production site in Italy but with another brand of the group, namely Forthing. A sedan 4.03 m long, 1.81 m wide and 1.57 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.66 m: we are on the dimensions of the electric Opel Corsa, the Citroen e-C3 and the Fiat Grande Panda. The design is clean and essential, marked by soft lines and details such as the light clusters that recall the geometry of the headlights of the Smart #1 and Xiaomi. The trunk ranges from 326 to 945 liters.

FEW PHYSICAL CONTROLS

The interior features a contrasting color palette, with black and white alternating between the dashboard and door panels. The distinctive diamond pattern of the upholstery conveys a sense of high quality, while the technological equipment is represented by a small 11-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch central infotainment display, located in the center of the dashboard. Physical controls are kept to a minimum, with most of the functions being exclusively touch-sensitive. The extra touch is the ability to fully recline the front seatswhich uses the backrest of the rear sofa to create two comfortable beds for a short break during the daily commute, taking a nap or watching a film on the display.

430 km of range

—

Nammi Box is based on a platform called Dongfeng S3. As for the powertrain, 31.5 kWh and 42.3 kWh LFP batteries are available in China, with the former allowing a range of 330 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle and the latter 430 km. For the record, in Switzerland only the model with the larger battery can be ordered. Fast charging allows you to add 200 km of range in about eight minutes. For now, the only choice for the engine, with a 95 HP front unit that allows you to reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h. Nammi Box would certainly have what it takes to do well on the Italian market, but it is clear that there are a series of political-economic problems being defined. If they can do so.
