Gui Santos Reaches 30-Point Milestone, Joins Elite Brazilian NBA Club
Gui Santos of the Golden State Warriors reached a career milestone, becoming the fourth Brazilian player in NBA history to score 30 or more points in a single game. Santos achieved this feat with a 31-point performance against the Brooklyn Nets.
Rising Brazilian Star
The 22-year-old native of Brasília delivered his best performance to date, shooting 11-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range and adding 3 rebounds and 2 steals. His recent play has garnered attention, and he capitalized on the opportunity to showcase his offensive versatility.
Santos excelled in both catch-and-shoot situations and near the basket, demonstrating a well-rounded offensive game. The performance came during “Latino Night” in San Francisco.
It was really positive to do that. And obviously, I feel super confident: the staff gives me a lot of (confidence), my teammates too. Even when I gain the ball in the post, I hear the coaches telling me: ‘Move ahead, do your job, do what you know how to do.’ And when you hear that, you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m going!’Gui Santos
Joining Legendary Company
Santos joins an exclusive group of Brazilian NBA players to reach the 30-point mark: Leandro Barbosa, Anderson Varejao, and Nene.
I think there were only three or four, I don’t really know. There is me, Leandro, Varejao and Nenê Hilario. To be part of this 30-point group is really specialGui Santos
Other notable Brazilian players, including Tiago Splitter (26 points), Raul Neto (25), Bruno Caboclo (24), Cristiano Felicio (17), and Marcelo Huertas (13), have fallen short of this milestone.
Santos noted a difference in his offensive role compared to his time in the NBA G League.
In the G-League, it came more from situations without the ball, on cuts or open shots. Tonight, I had the ball in my hands a lot more
he explained, adding that the absence of key players, including Stephen Curry, allowed him increased offensive responsibilities.
