Sinner Powers to Miami Quarterfinals, Eyes Sunshine Double

Yannick Sinner reached the quarterfinals at the Miami Open.

Sinner Overcomes Michelsen in Straight Sets

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner (Italy) secured his place in the Miami Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, defeating Alex Michelsen of the United States in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7/4). The match lasted 1 hour and 41 minutes.

Sinner, fresh off a victory at Indian Wells, is pursuing the prestigious “Sunshine Double” with this Miami Open run.

A Hard-Fought Victory

The second seed was challenged by the 40th-ranked Michelsen, particularly in the second set where Michelsen took a 5-2 lead. However, Sinner battled back, forcing a tiebreak which he ultimately won.

“I feel like I served extremely well in important moments and that helped me out, especially in the tough moments,”

Sinner finished the match with 15 aces compared to Michelsen’s three.

Historical Achievement

With this win, Sinner has become only the third man in Miami Open history to reach the quarterfinals in each of his first five attempts, joining Yannick Noah and Stefan Edberg.

Quarterfinal Matchup

Sinner will next face 19th seed Frances Tiafoe of the United States in the quarterfinals.

Sinner’s Dominant Form

This victory extends Sinner’s undefeated streak to 28 consecutive sets at the ATP Masters 1000 level. He is now considered a strong contender to win the Miami Open, especially following the elimination of Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner has too become the fourth player in history to win 15 or more consecutive matches in the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and Miami Open), alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz.

“But today was not easy — I played a night match yesterday and today in the daytime, so the conditions were very different.”
