Basel, Switzerland – The 2026 Swiss Open concluded on Sunday with victories for Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in men’s singles and Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in women’s singles. The Super 300 event on the BWF World Tour saw intense competition and several standout performances.

Tanaka Secures Men’s Singles Title

Yushi Tanaka defeated Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan in straight games to claim the men’s singles crown. Tanaka controlled the match with his tactical precision, winning 21-18, 21-12. This marks Tanaka’s third BWF World Tour title and his first since the 2024 U.S. Open.

Tanaka’s path to the title included a semi-final victory over Indonesian Olympic medalist Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. He had previously overcome Julien Scheiwiller in a hard-fought first match, winning 22-20 in the first set after trailing 11-2.

Katethong Crowned Women’s Singles Champion

Supanida Katethong delivered an impressive performance to win the women’s singles title, defeating Indonesia’s top seed Putri Kusuma Wardani in straight games. Katethong had earlier battled through a thrilling three-game semi-final against Lin Hsiang Ti of Chinese Taipei, winning 14-21, 21-18, 23-21.

The tournament also featured victories for Taiwanese twins in men’s doubles and Chinese players in women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Specifically, Li Yi Jing and Wang Yi Duo of China won the women’s doubles, defeating Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian. Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi of China won the mixed doubles after a 62-minute match.

Approximately 15,000 spectators attended the tournament at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel throughout the week.
