JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Ospreys men’s tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Mercer Bears at the UNF Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, despite a spirited comeback attempt.
Early Struggles, Late Surge
Mercer secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. However, freshman Riccardo Ciulli and sophomore João Portugal managed to secure a win on court three with a score of 6-3. This marked Ciulli’s first collegiate dual doubles victory.
The Bears continued their momentum into singles play, taking the first three matches on courts three and two to establish a commanding 3-0 lead.
Ospreys Fight Back
The Ospreys refused to concede, mounting a determined comeback. Freshman Aron Major led the charge with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 victory on court six, improving his overall record to 8-1 and remaining undefeated at the number six position with a 5-0 record.
Ciulli followed with a hard-fought 7-6(6), 6-4 win on court five, while sophomore Kyle Piqueras added another point for the Ospreys with a 6-4, 7-5 victory on court four, leveling the score at 3-3.

Despite the Ospreys’ impressive rally, Mercer ultimately clinched the match with a three-set victory on court one.
