American Golfer Secures Korn Ferry Tour Victory and Major Championship Qualification

Alistair Docherty has emerged victorious at the 119th VISA Open of Argentina presented by Macro, held at the Jockey Club of San Isidro. The win marks the most significant achievement of his career to date and, crucially, secures his place in The 154th Open Championship, scheduled for July 2026 at Royal Birkdale.

Docherty finished with a remarkable total of 258 strokes (-22), culminating in a final round of 65. He edged out Chris Korte and S.Y. Noh by a single stroke to claim the title.

A Dramatic Finish at the Jockey Club

The victory came down to a dramatic finish, with Docherty sinking a birdie putt on the 18th hole to seal the win. He was co-leader after each round of the tournament.

“I’m speechless. It’s incredible. Throughout the week I was exceptionally patient, focused on what I did. My caddie and I stayed true to the process. I had some moments of doubt, but I handled it very well. The birdie on 18, after a great tee shot, was the perfect way to close a week like that. When I made that last putt, all the emotions came out together. They have been very hard years, I worked a lot mentally, even more than physically, and I am very happy to be at the top,”

This win represents Docherty’s first title on the Korn Ferry Tour, the pathway to the PGA TOUR.

Argentine Standout and Tournament Overview

The top Argentine performer in the tournament was amateur Segundo Oliva Pinto, who finished tied for seventh place with a total score of 264 (-16) after a final round of 67. Jorge Fernández Valdés finished tied for 15th with a score of 266, while Fabián Gómez tied for 25th at 270.

The 119th VISA Open of Argentina presented by Macro featured a prize purse of one million dollars and is in its third year as an official event on the Korn Ferry Tour, with a continued partnership extending through the 2029 season.

The Open Qualifying Series

Docherty’s victory automatically qualifies him for The Open Championship through The Open Qualifying Series.

“It is incredible that a Korn Ferry Tour tournament has a championship that gives an exemption to The Open. You don’t observe something like that on the tours that are the previous step; normally those opportunities are left for the bigger circuits. I am very, very grateful to The R&A.
