A Two-Decade Partnership Reaches New Heights
The Crida, a significant event for falleras, saw Marta Mercader debut a remarkable outfit created by Flor d’Aigua-Flor de Cotó. This year marks a special occasion for the firm, celebrating 20 years of involvement with the Crida, and a unique collaboration as they designed both the d’Aigua
(peinetas) and de Cotó
elements of Mercader’s ensemble.
Flor d’Aigua-Flor de Cotó has been the proceed-to indumentarista for Mercader throughout her time as fallera mayor of Alberic-Heroi Romeu, and have already created several outfits for her.
“Maribel”: A Family Tribute in Silk
The outfit, revealed as Mercader descended from her home, features a fabric named Maribel
, a nod to her family. The material is a narrow silk lampazo dyed in an apple-green hue, recreated from an antique espolín found in the archives of Compañia Valenciana de la Seda.
The Crida outfit is a particularly special choice for falleras, as it allows them to freely select their attire.
Historical Inspiration and Exquisite Detail
The design draws inspiration from 18th-century French patterns, utilizing striped fabric reminiscent of an antique jubón. The cuff is adorned with buttons from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
.
The manteletas are from Viana, and the jewelry, designed by Paco Artola, is inspired by a delicate basket that shares the name Mercader
, crafted from silver plated in gold and finished with peridot olivine teardrops.
A Personal Touch: The “Marta Mercader” Comb
Adding a personal touch, Guillermo Expósito created a new comb design, named Marta Mercader
. The design features the city’s coat of arms, as seen on the tiles of the Food Market, a place Mercader views daily from her balcony.
