Devontae Cacok: From Undrafted NBA Prospect to European Basketball Standout
Early Career and NBA Breakthrough
Devontae Cacok’s path to professional basketball was unconventional. He entered the NBA
in the 2019-20 campaign without being selected in the draft. He honed his skills in the summer league and the G League before earning a spot with the Los Angeles Lakers.
His time with the Lakers yielded a championship ring – a single game played, but a championship nonetheless. He continued in the NBA with Saint Anthony and further G League experience (18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds in three seasons) before making the move to Europe.
European Success
CSKA Moscow and Virtus Bologna
In February 2023, Cacok joined CSKA Moscow. Five months later, he signed with The Power of Bologna, under the direction of Sergio Scariolo, where journalist Chema de Lucas served as director of scouting.
“They wanted a fast and powerful center, who could change in defense and stay with the shorts without problem, one whose price was not skyrocketing, even if he needed to adapt to the new basketball.”
Chema de Lucas (as quoted in original source)
Alejandro Gomez watched the player and congratulated Lucas for an incorporation with the approval of Marc Gasol, his former teammate in the Lakers.
With CSKA Moscow, Cacok was a 2023 VTB United League bronze medalist and a 2023 Russian championship bronze medalist. He also achieved success with Virtus Bologna, becoming a 2023 Italian SuperCup winner.
Current Status: UCAM Murcia
As of February 21, 2026, Devontae Cacok plays for UCAM Murcia CB of the Spanish Liga ACB and the Basketball Champions League.
