A Historic Lineup for the Fireballs

The 2026 LIV Golf season has begun, and with it comes a new milestone for the Saudi Arabia-funded circuit: its first all-Spanish team. Captained by Sergio García, the “Fireballs” squad now consists of David Puig, Luis Masaveu, and Josele Ballester.

Building a Spanish Identity

García expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s composition, stating, For me it is an honor and a pleasure to be able to have a completely Spanish team. It was my idea from the beginning and I hoped to be able to achieve it at some point, although it has not been easy. “It’s a dream reach true,” about his vision for the team.

The team’s evolution from a near all-Spanish roster in the previous season, with Mexican Abraham Ancer as the fourth member, was completed after Ancer’s move to the Torque team led by Joaquín Niemann. García initially considered Ángel Ayora but ultimately selected Masaveu, who later gave way to Ballester.

Attracting Fans and Sponsors

The Fireballs GC are aiming to increase LIV Golf’s appeal within Spain. García hopes to Let’s hope that Spain gets behind us, supports us and we experience their encouragement in each tournament. He also expressed a desire to attract Spanish companies as sponsors, adding, We would love to represent Spain and any of its companies around the world.

Early sponsorship efforts include a partnership with Fever, a ticket sales management firm, and a collaboration with the JGolf agency to secure new sponsors and organize promotional activities.

Potential Rebranding on the Horizon

The team is even considering a name change to further emphasize its Spanish identity. One option under discussion is Real Club Toros, though García clarified, It is something we are working on, but it is not done yet. It is a possibility that we are looking at. As the year goes by, we’ll see where we end up. For now, we continue with the same name. This would align with other national teams within the league, such as the English “Majesticks” and the Australian “Ripper.”

Garcia’s Continued Commitment

Sergio Garcia has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with LIV Golf, solidifying his commitment to the league and his role as captain of the Fireballs GC. He will be entering his age 46 season in 2026.
