Controversy Erupts Over Puma Jersey Design

A jersey from Puma, the official kit provider for the Moroccan national football team, has ignited a political dispute due to its depiction of the map of Morocco. The design omits the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), commonly known as Western Sahara, leading to accusations of misrepresentation and calls for action.

Calls for Boycott and FRMF Response

The jersey has prompted demands for a boycott of the Puma brand, particularly as it also equips the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). Some are urging the FRMF to seek explanations from Puma, alleging that the jersey affected territorial sovereignty of Morocco with these wrong cards.

Diplomatic Implications and Past Disputes

The controversy stems from differing views on the region of Western Sahara. The issue has parallels with a previous dispute involving the USM Alger and RS Berkane, where the Lausanne CAS ruled in favor of USM Alger. Following that ruling, Moroccan clubs have refrained from displaying incorrect cartography on their jerseys.
