Children from various clubs across Spain join the Baskets Against Cancer campaign.

Record-breaking Participation in Baskets Against Cancer Campaign

In a remarkable display of unity and sportsmanship, nearly 90,000 children from all over Spain have joined the Baskets Against Cancer campaign, promoted by the Unoentrecienmil Foundation. This year’s edition, held on International Childhood Cancer Day, saw more than 650 clubs participating, including the debut of the Pumarín Basketball Club from Gijón.

“We are proud to support this campaign, which brings together the basketball community in solidarity to help those fighting cancer,” said Carlos Blanco Priede, president of Pumarín Basketball Club. The campaign has raised 800 euros, with donations coming from players, families, and even rival teams.

Notable Figures Lend Support to the Cause

Leading the campaign this year is Elena, a 14-year-old basketball player and cancer patient. She is joined by renowned players such as Juana Camilión, Gracia Alonso, Javier Beirsen, and Dani Stix, all of whom have achieved international success in their careers and are now using their platforms to raise awareness for this cause.

Childhood Cancer Awareness in Spain

Every year, around 1,600 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed in Spain. Initiatives like Baskets Against Cancer aim to show solidarity with these children and their families, while also contributing to research efforts to find a definitive solution to the disease.
