Los Alcázares’ Engaging March Events Honor International Women’s Day
The municipality of Los Alcázares, Spain, has prepared an inspiring month-long program filled with activities aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being and family participation, all centered around the International Women’s Day manifesto. The event, organized by the Department of Equality, focuses on self-knowledge, equality, and celebrating women’s achievements.
**Kick-starting the Celebrations**
The events commence on March 5 with an art exhibition by local artist Suami at the City Hall, featuring women in harmony with nature and flowers. Following that, on March 6, the documentary Mal de Fondo will be screened at the Plenary Hall, followed by a discussion on violence against diverse women. The cultural theme continues on March 20 with a free performance of the play If you were still alive by ‘Luces de Bohemia’.
**March 8: The Big Day**
On International Women’s Day, March 8, representatives from the local government, associations, and neighbors will gather at the Plaza de la Feria to read the 8M manifesto at noon. Earlier in the day, from 10 a.m., visitors can explore a market showcasing creations by women artisans and participate in workshops to make posters and learn patchwork.
“We’ve designed a diverse, open program to reach every resident, providing a space to reflect, learn, and continue moving towards real and effective equality,” said Claudia Muñoz, the Councilor for Equality. Margarita Balsalobre, the artist and cultural manager who created the event’s poster, expressed her gratitude that the program aims to involve everyone, from children to elders.
**Wellness and Self-Care Activities**
On Saturdays, March 14 and 21, a pelvic floor activity will take place at the Town Hall from 9 a.m., aiming to empower women with self-knowledge of their anatomy and encourage well-being and disease prevention. Following this, from 10:45 a.m., a yoga and meditation session will help improve joint mobility, breathing, and energy channeling.
Registration is required for both activities at workshopscreativoslosalcazares@gmail.com.
**Storytelling and Biomaterial Revolution**
On Friday, March 20, children can learn about equality through storytelling at the Municipal Library, preceded by a craft activity. Lastly, on Saturday, March 28, a ‘biomaterial revolution’ workshop will introduce participants to working with biodegradable elements, promoting recycling and environmental awareness.
Registration is free for the biomaterial workshop at tallercreativoslosalcazares@gmail.com.
**Educational Talks**
Throughout February and March, talks will be held at the Menárguez Costa and Las Claras institutes to continue raising awareness and breaking stereotypes.
