Canucks Snap 11-Game Skid, Top Capitals 4-3 in Thrilling Home Win
Vancouver Finally Taste Victory at Home
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — After more than a month of frustration, the Vancouver Canucks finally secured a win on home ice. A 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night ended the team’s 11-game losing streak and snapped a seven-game home losing skid dating back to early December.
“It’s a huge relief to finally get a win,” said Canucks forward Brock Boeser
, who scored a goal and an assist. “We’ve been working so hard, and it’s been tough not getting the results. Tonight, we stuck with it, and we got the win.”
Comeback Kids
The Canucks found themselves in an early two-goal deficit after Washington’s Dylan Strome
and Justin Sourdif
scored power-play goals within a minute of each other in the first period. However, Vancouver wasn’t rattled. Goals from Boeser and Evander Kane before the first intermission knotted the game at two.
In the second period, the Canucks asserted their dominance, scoring two more goals — courtesy of Drew O’Connor and Filip Hronek — to take a commanding 4-2 lead into the final frame.
Third-Period Thriller
The Capitals didn’t go down without a fight. Strome tallied his second of the game with just under three minutes remaining to trim Vancouver’s lead to one. But the Canucks’ defense, bolstered by Kevin Lankinen
‘s 29 saves, held strong to preserve the win.
Washington threatened late, but the Canucks’ resilience shone through. “We’ve been through a lot of tough times this year, and tonight, we showed that we can handle adversity and come out on top,” said Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau
.
