Nolan Traoré’s Struggles: A Learning Opportunity for the Young Nets Star

Brooklyn Nets’ 19-year-old French Guard Fails to Capitalize in Loss to Houston Rockets

A tough night for rookie Nolan Traoré (19) ended with a scathing critique from his coach, Jordi Fernandez, following the Brooklyn Nets’ 24-point loss to the Houston Rockets. Traoré, drafted 19th overall last summer, had a chance to shine with key players out but failed to seize the opportunity.

“He fell into the trap”, Fernandez reframes Traoré’s game

In 26 minutes on the floor, Traoré accumulated 3 points on 1-for-8 shooting, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers. The Frenchman’s struggles didn’t go unnoticed by Fernandez in the post-game press conference.

“I know his potential. He can play the pick and roll, go to the paint, reject the pick and roll, make the pass. But two passes for two turnovers isn’t enough. I needed him to understand that I wanted more,” said Fernandez.

Fernandez also criticized Traoré’s shot selection: “I need him to use his superpower and get in the paint. He fell into the trap of shooting every time they passed under the screen. You know, doing the same thing over and over and seeing the same results is the definition of insanity.”
