Thomas Sorber Lost Season: Another Blow for OKC Thunder
In a major setback, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced that rookie pivot Thomas Sorber has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, ruling him out for the entire 2025-26 season.
Injury Details and Impact
Sorber, the 15th overall pick in the 2025 draft from Georgetown, suffered the injury during an Oklahoma City training session last Thursday. The 6-foot-11 center was averaging impressive numbers during his lone season at Georgetown: 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.
History Repeats for OKC
This is not the first time the Thunder has faced such an injury in a rookie. Last year, Nikola Topic, the 12th pick in the 2024 draft, was recovering from ACL surgery when Oklahoma City drafted him. This trend raises concerns about the Thunder’s rookie development and safety protocols.
“This will be the second consecutive season in which a player selected in the first round of the Oklahoma City draft is lost the whole season due to a breakage of the anterior cross ligament.”
Looking Ahead for the Thunder
With Sorber out, the Thunder will need to adjust their roster and strategy. The young big man’s presence will be missed, both on and off the court. OKC will now look to their other rookies and veteran players to step up and fill the void.
