Indiana State has landed its first commit in the 2026 class, as 6-7 forward E.J. Hazelett announced on social media Wednesday night he committed to Indiana State following a campus visit

Hazelett’s Journey
Hazelett, who played his first three seasons at Franklin Central, transferred to Kankakee (Ill.) for his senior year. His father, Ed, was hired as the football coach at Kankakee. Despite a foot injury that slowed him down at the start of his junior season, Hazelett averaged 12.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 12 games.
Hazelett’s Indiana State Connection
Hazelett is the first high school commit in the 2026 class for Indiana State. He originally received an offer from the Sycamores midway through his sophomore year, his second offer after Kent State. In his last fully healthy season, as a sophomore, Hazelett averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals.
Hazelett to Team Up with Top-Ranked Recruit at Kankakee
At Kankakee, Hazelett will team up with 6-5 shooting guard Lincoln Williams, who is ranked as the top player from Illinois in the 2026 class. Williams has offers from Arizona State, DePaul, Illinois, Saint Louis, TCU, and others.
Indiana State’s 2024-25 Season
Indiana State finished with a 14-18 record in Matthew Graves’ first year as coach, after a 32-win season under Josh Schertz, who left for Saint Louis.
