Without centimeters and without gasoline in the tank, the UEMC RVB got as far as it did. The Valladolid team lost to Monbus Obradoiro after a good game in general terms, again, but marked by the difference in the rebound and the lack of legs and success in the critical minutes of the game. In a clash of comings and goings, of alternatives, the Valladolid players improved defensively, although they could not close the match and the Compostelas took advantage of their physical and energy superiority to decide with talent in the final stretch. And again, after a too cruel outcome.
Beyond the sporting level, however, the match started in the best way with an impressive and heartfelt tribute from all of Pisuerga to the Vallkirias Pisuerga. A real example, recognized on a personal and sporting level as part of the Pink October initiatives of the Blanquivioleta Club, tinged with solidarity reasons throughout the month. Above basketball, life, and the applause of the entire audience just before opening the match.
In sports, however, things did not start too well for the Pucelanos. Monbus Obradoiro took advantage of the poor staging to put himself 9 ahead in just three minutes (2-11), doing damage with Stevic at the post and taking advantage of the lack of local centers. That was going to be the key to the game. But he quickly closed the wound and the UEMC RVB contained him. Two triples by Atencia and Hoover cut part of the lead and opened an even exchange of blows between both teams (8-11).
With a high pace and many points, too many for the interests of the Castilian team, the first period passed in a dizzying and even manner. The entry of Sergio de la Fuente served to equalize the fight on the rebound, without centimeters but with fight and pride for the flag, Lolo Encinas’ men began to close their ring and feel increasingly comfortable. And for example, a button: partial 21-9, from 2-11 in just three minutes to 23-20 that closed the quarter. The path was clear.
And the Pisuerga team stayed in line. With a good entrance and atmosphere in the pavilion, that defensive line continued to stop a Monbus Obradoiro who has plenty of talent. Kovacevic started the quarter with a triple and the UEMC RVB, coral, supportive and distributing the scoring, made a first attempt to distance themselves (33-24).
The visitor Gonzalo Rodríguez stopped it in time with the first timeout of the contest and the foreign reaction was immediate. The Galicians took advantage of their superiority in rebounding and a 4-minute drought without scoring to respond with a 0-5 run. The same script was repeated halfway through the event. Another local surge with the emergence of Hoover and another defensive step forward to raise the maximum advantage to +8 (37-29)… and another response from the Compostela team to close the first half within striking distance (37-35).
Lack of legs and centimeters
He changed the film after the break and the attacks reigned again, a context favorable to a Monbus Obradoiro with more talent and weapons. Gonzalo Rodríguez’s men recovered the offensive clarity as at the beginning of the contest and turned the result around (42-46). But the UEMC RVB once again resisted and demonstrated that it has acquired that character. When it seemed that the visitors were playing at their speed, the Blanquivioleta went up a gear and closed the rebound, even though they were fewer and much smaller than the rival, to take command again. 9-0 partial to end the third quarter and reach the last quarter ahead and at a good pace (55-50).
Pucela went up to a difference of +7, once again approaching a turning point that could be definitive in leaving a Monbus Obradoiro badly hurt, which, once again, found air again at a delicate moment. The UEMC RVB was not able to break through again, entering with the deposit in reserve and suffering as the minutes progressed, and the Santiago de Compostela team rose with a partial score of 0-6 that forced Lolo Encinas to rebuild and look for solutions in the face of adversity.
The Blanquivioleta came back with a triple from Kovacevic, but three fouls in a row against the locals, in addition to another technique, gave the Galicians wings in the form of bonus. 60-56, a world to be played (7:48) and free throws with each foul until the end… in a flash. To row against everything.
But the UEMC RVB simply did not succeed and logic prevailed. The people from Valladolid, stuck, did not have the lucidity to see the rim, while the people from Santiago relied on the rebounds of Stević and the points of a differential Sergi Quintela (18 points). After notably containing the Monbus Obradoiro towers for almost 35 minutes, the lack of legs and energy allowed the foreigners to live on second and third options to sentence. Two consecutive triples by the Galicians got the match back on track (62-69) against a Pucela that did not give up and tried to get up with six consecutive goals from Hoover (68-72) that were not enough. Gonzalo Rodríguez’s team did not forgive from the personnel line and sealed the fifth consecutive defeat, again in a cruel way and in a perhaps unfair ending, for Lolo Encinas’ team.
